Naruto loves ramen with a dedication so pure and simple that I have to admire him, so of course his son must also have a food addiction. As we all know, extreme love of food is hereditary. My question is this: How did it go from a love of ramen, arguably one of the best things Japan has to offer the world (I’d know, I’ve read history books detailing the rise of ramen in the modern day and age), to YAKISOBA PAN, which is just some moderately flavored noodles in a bun, not even a fancy bun, one that barely surpasses your average hot dog bun.

One of my very favorite anime every is The Eccentric Family, so it stands to reason that The Eccentric Family 2, the second season, is my favorite anime of the Spring 2017 season. I can’t say enough good things about it- the art is fantastic, the script is funny and clever, the music is subtle at times, and bold when it needs to be. The plot is original and complex, and each character has a story that lurks just outside the main plot, waiting to be told.

Crunchyroll #45: Shokugeki no Anime- Boruto

This week we’re doing something a little new! I go head to head with my BFF to make the best Boruto Burrito!

Check it out here!

Are you a fan of Boruto? This week, my roommate (Sarah) and I threw down over this show, competing to see who could make the best Boruto-themed burrito, a la Shokugeki no Soma or Iron Chef. Though we have very different opinions of this show, the results of our efforts were extremely tasty.

There is a lot of food you commonly see in anime – curry, rice, ramen, crepes. These things are ubiquitous. All well and good, but I have to confess, from a professional cook’s standpoint, you can only make curry so many different ways before you get bored. In part, this is what makes anime great – not all anime takes place in Japan, so not all food is strictly Japanese. Thus, a lot of food from around the world comes into play with some semblance of regularity! Unfortunately, while these instances aren’t rare, they certainly aren’t common in anime in the way the favored foods of Japan are.

Spring Season 2017 has rolled in and, I have to say, I’m pretty happy so far. There’s so many good shows out at the moment and I’m having a lot of fun watching old favorites (The Eccentric Family 2 and Attack on Titan) while also watching the new stuff that’s out! In fact, my life has been so anime centric lately that I even made an effort to scrape myself off the couch and go out to watch Kimi no Na Wa or Your Name as it’s called in good ole’ America. It was superb- I highly recommend you see it, if you get the chance.

Crunchyroll #40: Elizabeth Onigiri inspired by “Gintama”

Everyone loves a good mystery every now and then, and my mystery of choice happens to be Elizabeth, the mysterious companion to Katsura (Zura? Katsu?). She is a faintly bird-like creature (with hairy legs) with a human inside her (uhhhhhh) who might be the director of the anime, but no one is really sure. If you’re incredibly confused, don’t worry- so is everyone else, including most of the characters of the show.
